8.7 SAT Math - Perception/Spatial Relations
Perception and Spatial Relations math questions thankfully rarely show up on the SAT, but it's still good to know how to solve them. These have to do with imagining a picture or solution in your head based on the picture given. They may look something like this:
20. The plane JKL intersects with plane DEF at line m. If line r is parallel to line m, which of the following must be true?
(A) Line r is parallel to plane JKL
(B) Line r is parallel to plane DEF
(C) Line r is perpendicular to plane JKL
(D) Line r intersects plane DEF
(E) A plane that intersects line r must intersect plane JKL or DEF
-SAT Math Hint: Many Geometry questions are simply testing your creativity. Get Creative! Try to think of situations that would make something true or not true, unusual circumstances that are available, anything to mix up your answer to try and eliminate answer choices as quickly as possible.
To solve perception or spatial relation questions, try drawing the image described in as many ways as possible. Alternatively, you can use your hands or test booklet to make planes and lines in the air, but watch out! You don't want the proctor to think you are showing someone your answers, so keep anything you do subtle and close to your desk.
